STREET OUTREACH
ACTIVITIES on the street:
Contact with the kids who are living or working on the street: Regular visit of the so-called street stations (places where children live on the street) and identify / discover the newcomers.
The toy-therapy: Playing is the natural behavior of a child. When a street child plays can discover his talents and abilities. One also learn the joy when his turn comes in the game. He learns how to use strategies in order to keep himself in the game avoiding of being excluded. One can observe this is one way towards socialization.
To stimulate and motivate the young people living on the street to go back to school Yithuba Lami offers a so-called outside training of literacy and numeracy.
One of the means of approaching them is the first aid/curatives. As they live on the street they cannot look after their bodies properly. They frequently fight. These circumstances provide small or sometimes more serious cuts, bruises and other skin related problems.
Excursion/trip/sport: taking away from a street even for a short while, the child may be strengthened to leave a street permanently and may understand that he could live without street environment and taking drugs. Celebrations: We would like to celebrate everything that affect their lives – state holidays, national and international commemoration days, religious feasts, birthdays. Family reconciliation: Having received the proper address from the child we make contact with the family through the local community.
Be VOLUNTEER! Be street missionary! We are looking for street educators, people who would like to participate in street outreach: to visit people on the street, to share their lives with others. |
